This is the place where you can personalize your profile!
But, how?
By moving, adding and personalizing widgets.
You can drag and drop to rearrange.
You can edit widgets to customize them.
The left side has widgets you can add!
Some widgets you can only access when you get a premium membership.
Some widgets have options that are only available when you get a premium membership.
We've split the page into zones!
Certain widgets can only be added to certain zones.
"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.
Don't forget, restraints can bring out the creativity in you!
Now go forth and astound us all with your devious profiles!
Well, some progress is being made...working on stick figures at the moment...yes, stick figures...
I'm trying to go through my sketchbook throwing down stick figures in different poses, seeing if the poses look natural, forced, or posed, etc. To build anything great, you need a solid foundation. So I'm starting with stick figures. I plan to throw down maybe 75 to 100 figures in varying poses. Not only will thig give me practice, but also refine my methods. Currentally I'm taking my digital camera (old Sony Cybershot 3.1MP camera) with me everywhere (except work, to much confidental information around) taking everything from wide multi person to profile to action shots. Then using them as refrence for stick figures.
The next step is to take those stick figures and analize them. Select maybe 20 to 25 of them that look good and natural, different angels and poses, etc. Take those and start new larger sketches of the stick figure and then using cones, spheres, rods etc to start building out the figure. Again this gives me practive and refines my technique.
Step three is to take 5 to 10 of the good shaped figures and to start fleshing them out. Using some anatomy references I have to add in muscle locations and work out the image some more.
I just realized I'm late getting back to work, so this is gonna sound rushed...
Step four, take 1-3 of those images and start filling in the details, etc.
Step 5, Take 1-2 of those and Ink them in Illustrator (with a mouse!)
He's been telling me about how you've been helping him lots with your long, detailed replies to his art questions. ^^
I'll be trying out your hair tutorial tonight (I'm coloring one of CreativeTheory's linearts). I usually us a LOT of burns/doges in photoshop to create the highlights/shadows. We'll see how it turns out.
LOL, Aw, that's so sweet of him! And yes, I am painfully long-winded at times. haha. He seems quite tolerant of it.
And I hope the tutorial goes well. Burn and dodge are the ruination of all that is holy in digital art. lol. I'm sure they have their places, but a substitute for highlights and shadows is not it!
Whoops! I forgot to reply to your message * embarrassed* Sorry bout that...
I'm gonna send my friend a link yo your DA page ^^ He's a much more talented artist that I and I'm sure he'd love the hair tutorial.
Dodge and burn worked for me (and of course I'm a highly successful artist who doesn't follow anybody else's tutorials ). But my realm is more photo manipulation. I'm the IT guy at work and deal with photo manips a fair amount. Hence why I'm working on my coloring, a change of pace I guess.
No problem at all! And OH, you're probably right on that there IS a place for it in photomanips. Not my field of understanding at all, so that's probably a REALLY good point. lol. What I do know about using digital programs for illustration, though, is that dodge and burn can nearly never take the place of chosen colors for effective lighting and shadow. It's a whole different feel.
And always feel free to ramble. God knows I do. LOL.
